The story behind Pink Ribbons Project, The Two Sisters Story

Watch the “Two Sisters Story” here: http://www.pinkribbons.org/twosistersstory/

In 1995, Jane Weiner, a professional dancer in New York City, learned that her sister in Houston, Susan Rafte, had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Jane joined with friends and fellow dancers David Parker, Sara Hook and Robin Staff, to found Pink Ribbons Project, dancers in motion against breast cancer. Together they produced a fund-raiser in New York City to raise enough money to send breast cancer survivors to testify in Congressional hearings in Washington, D.C. That testimony helped convince the FDA to approve three new cancer-fighting drugs. One of those drugs, Taxotere, was a drug that Susan would take the next year, allowing her to improve enough to receive a stem-cell transplant in 1997.

Today, Susan is not only a multi-year cancer survivor, but the Survivor Founder of Pink Ribbons Project. She works tirelessly with Jane, now the Artistic Director, to educate the community about breast cancer through the mediums of dance and the other arts.
Pink Ribbons Project Believes:
Awareness and early detection of breast cancer will save lives.
Screening and diagnostic testing for breast cancer should be made available to everyone.
All persons touched by breast cancer should have access to medical treatment.
Through the arts, we educate and inform in ways that move people to take action against breast cancer.
The arts inspire, lift up and heal those who are touched by breast cancer.
Advocacy at the local, state, and national levels is integral to promoting breast health and improving the quality of life for those touched by breast cancer.
