Get Mammograms, Know Your Status, & Promote Awareness!

As we roll into October, a.k.a. Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we at Define are here to educate you to feel your absolute best.  Taking care of yourself not only means coming inside the studio to take any and all of our wonderful classes, but it also means taking care of yourself outside of the studio. If you are female, over the age 40, or have a family history of breast cancer, take the time to talk to your doctor about scheduling a mammogram.

Every year, about 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. This year alone, about 250,000 cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women.  About 2600 new cases will be diagnosed in men.

These numbers are staggering, and the best line of defense that we can use for early detection of breast cancer is to have an annual mammogram.  The society for breast imaging recommends an annual mammogram starting at the age of 40.  Why? Because your risk for breast cancer increases with age.

Concerned about exposure to radiation, or wondering what to do if you have a family history of breast cancer?  Watch the short video below to help you gain more insight into the benefits of mammography in detecting breast cancer.

Don’t forget to keep an open dialogue about breast cancer with your friends and family.  All of us know atleast one person who has been affected by this disease. Let October be the month where we all raise awareness and stop breast cancer in its tracks.  And if you would like to be a part of the Define movement to end breast cancer, sign up for our annual Pink Ride October 15th!  Clip in, and rev it up to support The Rose. See you all in the saddle!
