Blue Cure Foundation
Thursday, September 22nd, 2011
September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month
and Houstonian Gabe Canales started The Blue Cure Foundation to save lives through raising awareness of prostate cancer among all adult men.
A little about the Blue Cure Foundation:
Did you know prostate cancer is more common than breast cancer? Prostate cancer strikes 1 in 6 men, while breast cancer strikes 1 in 8 women. Last year, an estimated 217,730 U.S. men were diagnosed with prostate cancer and 32,050 died of the disease, the most commonly diagnosed “male cancer.”
When I was diagnosed last year at age 35, like most men I had little idea what it was. Now I do — and I want to help others learn, too. So I’ve spoken across the country, written for The Huffington Post and the Houston Chronicle, met with top doctors and researchers and appeared in interviews to raise awareness and educate others.
Yes, I’m committed — and I’m devoting the rest of my life to raising awareness and saving lives. That’s why this summer (2011) I’m officially launching the Blue Cure Foundation, as the “blue” men’s side of the “pink” campaign for women’s breast cancer. Our goal is to raise awareness of prostate cancer, encourage annual screenings, promote healthier lifestyles for preventative measures and reach a younger generation.
Please join me in the fight to end prostate cancer!

Cards of Hope
Thursday, June 23rd, 2011
Buy a card, send a child to school. (How easy is that?!?)
Fund a Future, Inc. (a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting underprivileged children in order to improve their living conditions, health, and education), teamed with Alay Kapwa, a Philippine community organization, to create a scholarship program for poor but deserving youth from the slums of Cebu City, Philippines.
And the cards seen in the video can be purchased at Ten Thousand Villages.
